Austin in August - Twisted Texas

Summers in Texas are BRUTAL. By the time August rolls around, we’re usually all dying for some activities that don’t include roasting our skins in the Texas heat. August in Austin is best spent in 2 ways; indoor activities to escape the afternoon heat; and evening meals on outdoor patios with a light breeze to keep you company.

With that in mind, your August bucket list has officially arrived! Here are some indoor activities to keep you cool this Summer and some epic foods to try:

1. Beyond Van Gogh

An immersive art experience, explore the world through the eyes of Vincent Van Gogh. His pieces are celebrated and brought to life through this beautiful 3D experience located at the Circuit of Americas, under the Starry Night pavilion. The experience is extending their stay in Austin until September 5th.

2. Cidercade

Known as the best arcade bar in Austin, for only $10 you have unlimited plays on over 150 arcade games! Did we mention they also serve beer AND pizza on their lakeside patio? Cidercade is family friendly during the day, but after 8 p.m. is 21 & Up.

3. iFly

Two words. Indoor skydiving. Yup, Austin has it. Defy gravity at iFly Austin, an indoor skydiving simulation attraction! At iFly, state of the art wind tunnels allow people to experience the freedom and thrill of flying in a safe and controlled environment.

4. Monster Mini-Golf and Laser Tag

Located in Round Rock, this monster-themed mini-golf chain features a glow in the dark putt putt course, arcade games, laser tag, and a live DJ.

5. Punch Bowl Social

Featuring fantastic food and delicious cocktails, there’s also no shortage of activities here. If the food and drink aren’t enough to keep you occupied, you can also bowl, play ping-pong and arcade games, or entertain everyone with your amazing karaoke skills. If you didn’t come here with friends you’re sure to leave with some!

6. Gabriela’s South Austin

If you love Mexican food, mangonadas, and margaritas, this is the spot for you! Located in Southpark Meadows, Gabriela’s, much like it’s sister restaurant Taquero Mucho, is decked out in plants and pink. Brunch is available on the weekends, which is also when you can try their delicious birria tacos. The music here is always poppin’, grab your friends and enjoy a night on their gorgeous outdoor patio!

7. Perla’s Seafood & Oyster Bar

A staple on South Congress, Perla’s serves fresh fish & oysters that are flown in daily from BOTH coasts. Coastal cocktails are enjoyed outside on their shaded patio, with a great view of the hustle and bustle of SoCo in the evenings.

This place has it all! Local beers, specialty coffee, craft cocktails, food trucks and live music live here! A beautiful garden and pond are hidden amongst the food trucks, making this a pretty beautiful and unique spot in ATX. They are also pet friendly; bring your furry friend along to enjoy some truly delicious treats.
