It's Raining, It's Boring...Activities in Austin TX - Twisted Texas

Have a good time AND stay dry with these rainy day ideas

While we all want Lake Travis to look more like a lake and less like a puddle, it’s a fact that no one in Austin loves the rain.  If we loved rain, we would live in Seattle.  Or Oregon.  Or anywhere else that does not boast 300 days of sunshine a year.  We don’t like the drought, that’s true.  But in the past few weeks we’ve seen enough rain to last us the rest of the year, perhaps even the rest of our lifetime.  Or so it feels like.  Austinites are not terribly good at driving in the rain.  You can’t drink on a patio in the rain.  And you can’t float the Guadalupe in the rain. (Or at least it’s not recommended.)  Alas, another week of thunderstorms is upon us.  Check out Access ATX’s favorite rainy day adventures and activities in Austin TX:

Get a little groovy at the LBJ Library’s new summer exhibit

See another side of the @LBJLibrary with the arrival of the traveling exhibit Ladies and Gentlemen…The Beatles!  While the Library is always a great way to learn more about LBJ and his impact on Texas and America, this month the museum highlights another major happening during his presidency…the British Invasion.  Featuring more than 400 pieces of memorabilia, it is sure to have you singing “Here Comes the Sun” no matter how gray the day.  #BeatlesatLBJ

Go spelunking!

Inner Space Caverns was hidden for over 10,000 years and is now one of the best preserved caves in Texas.  Tours range from a simple cave walk to a more adventurous tunnel crawl.  Great for all ages.  And the best part…it takes a massive amount of water to close the caves.  So bring on the rain, you will be exploring a part of Austin it can’t touch!

Cheer on the Texas Roller Girls

If you have yet to see Austin’s favorite amateur punk feminist sport, you are missing out.  The Texas Roller Girls compete on Saturday nights.  It is always a ferocious fight to the finish.  Austin claims to have given roller derby its revival in the early 2000s, now it is the subject of a documentary and a movie.  #rollerderby
